Luke Petros set to replace Farai Tawachera at Blanket Mine

Former Warriors forward Luke Petros is heavily linked with Gwanda’s Blanket Mine FC — a move that could effectively confirm Sheasham’s non-participation from the 2026 season.

Petros is a respected coach with a proven track record in first division football, having led Whawha FC to the PSL in 2020 and also took charge of Tenax in 2023 after Whawha disbanded.

Last season, he was at Sheasham FC as Prince Matore’s assistant. However, the duo has left the Gweru-based side.

Matore has joined Hardrock FC with Petros destined for Blanket Mine FC. While Matore is now assistant coach at Hardrock FC, his former colleague Petros will assume the head coach role at Blanket Mine FC.

Club secretary Observe Mago could not immediately confirm the move but said “the final decision will be made on Wednesday, as we are still going through internal processes.”

Last season, Farai Tawachera was at Blanket Mine FC but he left at the end of 2025 to join Ngezi Platinum Stars as one of Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva’s assistant coaches along with rising coach Clifford Dzvairo.

Most importantly, Petros’ intention to join the mining outfit is a big indicator of the current situation at Sheasham FC who have been mum about their future. They have let go key personnel and have kept the fans guessing as their silence is conspicuous.

So far, the likes of goalkeeper Elton Sibanda, striker Wilfred Madzungu and midfielder David Mangezi have found new clubs while the rest of the players are club hunting.

Meanwhile, the Central Region Soccer League has released its 2026 road map with action scheduled to kick off on 14th of March. The league’s fixtures will be released on 1 March.
