In a shocking, but understandable, turn of events, Liverpool are now open to selling Mohamed Salah.
Salah, who is the reigning Premier League golden boot holder, has been left out of the starting XI for Liverpool in the last three games. The most recent outing against Leeds United is the first time ever in his career in and outside of England that he had ever been left on the bench for the entirety of a match.
The Egyptian, who is entering his tenth year at the club, gave a shocker of an interview afterwards where he expressed a lot of opinions and betrayed his true emotions.
In that interview, he claimed that his relationship with manager Arne Slot is nonexistent and that certain figures at the club are looking to get him out.
He said: “I’m very, very disappointed. I have done so much for this club. Everybody can see that during the years and especially last season. It seems like the club is throwing me under the bus. That’s how I feel. It’s very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame.”
Many figures in football, from Liverpool icons Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher to many pundits and media outlets, have reacted to his comments in the interview. Some reports also claim that it was not popular among members of Liverpool’s administrative group.
Recent reports now claim that they are willing to let him go. Some are claiming that Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, where former Liverpool striker Darwin Nuñez currently plays, could be the Egyptian’s destination. How early the Reds will look to part ways with Salah, however, is still uncertain.
That interview also had hints of the man’s next move, which could be to facilitate a move away in January if Slot remains the manager.
Salah said: “This club, I will always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much, and I always will. It [the situation] is not acceptable to me, to be fair. I don’t get it.
“I don’t think I’m the problem. I have done so much for this club. I said to [my family], come to the Brighton game. I don’t know if I am going to play or not, but I am going to enjoy it. In my head, I’m going to enjoy that game because I don’t know what is going to happen now.
“I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go to the Africa Cup of Nations. I don’t know what is going to happen when I am there.”
Asked if a Saudi transfer is possible in the winter window, Salah replied: “I don’t want to answer this question, because the club is going to take me in a different direction.
“I cannot say it is impossible [to fix the situation], but from what I feel, I have done so much for the club. I love the fans and the club so much, but I don’t know what is going to happen next.”
The former Chelsea, Fiorentina, and AS Roma forward currently earns £400,000 weekly at Anfield. It remains to be seen if any club will be willing to take a chance on him come January.
