’Leaving no one and no place behind’ mantra reaches football in Munhumutapa Cup launch

President Mnangagwa has officially launch the highly-anticipated Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, to become the country’s biggest football knock-out tournament.

The Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, will bring together men and women in football, a fulfillment of the President’s mantra of “leaving no one and no place behind.”

According to ZIFA, the Munhumutapa Cup will feature all the 18 Premiership clubs, all teams from the four lower Divisional leagues sides and Area Zones.

Beach soccer and Five-Aside have also been incorporated in the tournament worth US$25 million spread over five year. A US$5 million package will be allocated per season. And President Mnangagwa is the principal sponsor.

The tournament will be used as a ticket to the African Safari, with senior men’s champions set the right to represent Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Over the years, the Chibuku Super Cup has been the determinant of who represents Zimbabwe in the CAF Confederation Cup. Dynamos are scheduled to represent Zimbabwe in the 2026/27 edition.

FIFA President Giovanni Infantino is thrilled by the developments in Zimbabwe. He said: “What a great day for football in your wonderful country. The launch of the ZIFA Munhumutapa Cup is a momentous occasion for our relations.

“And I congratulate you all on bringing this tremendous, fabulous project to life. I’m especially heartened that it has such strong governmental support. So thank you for that, Mr. President, and it will give even more momentum to the fantastic work of all the team at the Zimbabwe Football Association.

“The far-reaching impact of this tournament is another aspect that particularly gives us joy, as it mirrors ZIFA’s own goal of making football accessible to all. I congratulate you again and thank you for all that you’re doing to make football, a beautiful game, even more beautiful in beautiful Zimbabwe. So enjoy your day in Harare and best wishes for the great competition that’s about to commence.”
