After a PSL season tainted in shame and financial struggles, Kwekwe United’s participation in the 2026 Central Region Soccer League is yet to be confirmed.
Kwekwe United had a disgraceful maiden PSL season having spent the better part of the season at the bottom of the table.
They ended the season with the worst ever record of 10 points from 34 matches — one win, seven draws and 26 defeats. Along the way, they failed to fulfil their home fixture against Herentals on 23 May, which saw them being slapped with a USD 3500 fine.
Furthermore, their troubles saw several players quit halfway through the season, while they swapped hands in terms of coaches. First Saul Chaminuka led them in those early stages of the season before leaving to join Dynamos FC.
Paul Chimalizeni replaced Chaminuka but only presided over three matches before leaving for Agama FC. It was their third coach of the season, Masimba Dinyero who soldiered on to finish the season at the helm.
However, his efforts yielded nothing as financial woes crippled all their operations. And it seems their troubles are far from over as they are yet to clear their arrears in the PSL.
Moreover, they are yet to confirm participation in the Central Region this season. Kwekwe United and Sheasham have left the Central Region officials guessing, crucially as the 2026 Annual General Meeting scheduled for 4 February approaches.
Meanwhile, FanZone has it on good authority that the Kwekwe United officials are in talks with Betterbrands for a financial injection. It remains to be seen if Kwekwe United will rise up from their slump and participate in the 2026 Central Region Soccer League. But at the moment, they are mum.
