Kane cools Premier League return talk as Bayern extension remains possible

Harry Kane has indicated that his desire to return to England has diminished, revealing he is open to discussing a new deal with Bayern Munich.

The striker is midway through the four-year agreement he signed when joining the German champions from Tottenham Hotspur for £86.4 million in 2023. Since arriving, he has found the net 103 times in 106 matches, playing a central role in securing the 2024-25 Bundesliga crown — the first piece of silverware of his career.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank recently expressed his wish to see the forward back in the Premier League, where Kane needs 48 goals to surpass Alan Shearer’s long-standing top-flight record of 260.

However, the England captain has suggested that his outlook has shifted. “In terms of staying longer, I could definitely see that,” he said. “I spoke openly a couple of weeks ago that I have not had those conversations with Bayern yet, but if they were to arise, I would be willing to talk and have an honest conversation.”

Kane explained that his current mindset is fully focused on his club in Germany, adding that any future decisions will depend on performances and achievements over the coming seasons.

Premier League ambitions fade

Reflecting on his move abroad, Kane acknowledged that his feelings toward a potential comeback have changed. “If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back,” he admitted. “Now I have been there a couple of years I would probably say that has gone down a little bit, but I wouldn’t say I would never go back.”

He added that his career has taught him how timing and circumstances often shape opportunities but made clear that his priority remains his current club.

Winning sparks new hunger

Kane is already the leading scorer in the history of both Tottenham and England and became the quickest player this century to reach 100 goals for a single side in Europe’s top five divisions, achieving the feat in just 104 games for Bayern.

Before last season, major honors had eluded him, but that changed when he lifted the Bundesliga trophy. The striker admitted he was unsure how he would react after ending his long wait for success, but the experience has made him more driven.

“When you win a title like I did last year, maybe it could be easy to go the other way and be like, ‘OK, I’ve done what I wanted to achieve’,” he said. “But it’s given me more motivation to do more and be better. I think I’ve shown that this year.”

Kane explained that the achievement pushed him to raise his standards in all aspects of his preparation, from diet to training routines, as he targets more silverware in the years ahead.
