Kaindu demands character response after Munhumutapa Cup exit as Hardrock targets Chiefs’ scalp

Hardrock FC coach Kelvin Kaindu

Hardrock FC coach Kevin Kaindu says their next fixture after bowing out of the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup will be a huge test of character.

Hardrock had been cruising nicely across all competitions until they were eliminated from the inaugural Munhumutapa Challenge Cup by Herentals College FC, who defeated them 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Chahwanda Stadium on Sunday.

Kaindu said their next match against Bulawayo Chiefs will require his men to dig deep after losing a quarter-final match of a tournament that carries a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup.

The defeat is a dent to Hardrock’s charge this season, having lost to a side they beat twice in league matches this term.

HUGE TEST OF CHARACTER AHEAD KD HARDROCK FC

“It will be a huge test of character for us. We were cruising in all competitions but to lose in the quarter-final of a tournament with a CAF ticket is painful,” Kaindu said.

“We now have to show who we are. The next game against Bulawayo Chiefs will need the boys to dig deep and show character.”

Kaindu admitted that failing to beat a team they dominated in the league could affect morale if they do not respond the right way.

“If we don’t respond the right way, this defeat to a team we beat twice in the league could dent our season,” he said.

FOCUS SHIFTS TO CHIBUKU SUPER CUP AND PSL RACE

Kaindu is however pleased that his men remain in contention for two other competitions, the Chibuku Super Cup and the Premier Soccer League title.

“We are still in contention for the Chibuku Super Cup and the PSL title, so all is not lost. But we must quickly put this disappointment behind us and focus on what is ahead,” he said. Hardrock will now turn their attention to the league where they remain in the title race.
