Journalist claims Brentford holding up Spurs’ move for Thomas Frank

Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of appointing Thomas Frank as their new manager following their parting of ways with Ange Postecoglou, but the announcement is being held up by Brentford.

It has been a rollercoaster week for Spurs fans who watched Postecoglou lose his job despite delivering on his promise to bring silverware to the club. The manager, who made a strong impression on the club in his first season, promised the fans a trophy in his second with that now infamous quote that spoke to his track record as a manager.

However, the Daniel Levy-led board considered several factors, including his league record after the 2024/25 season, which saw him lose over 20 league games to keep Spurs just above the relegation zone going into the 2025/26 season. This cost the Australian his job and made Spurs reach out to Frank, who has made Brentford comfortable in the Premier League since bringing them back to the top flight five seasons ago after more than four decades in the lower tiers of English football.

The world is awaiting the official announcement of Frank as Spurs’ new manager, but a journalist claims that Brentford are holding up the announcement because of other exits.

Speaking live on talkSPORT, radio host and Bees fan Natalie Sawyer revealed: “Brentford boss Thomas Frank has informed the Bees that he wants to join Tottenham.”

“Frank’s camp has already held talks over terms with the Brentford boss as well as with Tottenham to give the indication that he is ready to replace Ange Postecoglou.”

“My sources have said it’s pretty much a done deal. The issue now with Brentford is negotiating who else can go with Thomas Frank.”

Managers usually leave with their staff when changing jobs, and according to Sawyer, Brentford is not willing to part ways with all of Frank’s staff. Brentford are also concerned about player transfers, as Frank is looking to take a few of his favorite players with him to North London.

Reports emerged recently that Spurs could try to hijack the Bryan Mbeumo deal that the Bees are discussing with Manchester United because of Frank. A few other players are catching Spurs’ fancy too, which is why the announcement of Frank as the UEFA Europa League champion has been delayed.

Meanwhile, Brentford are already looking to Scott McKenna from Ipswich Town as their next manager, and he could be announced once the issue with Frank and Spurs is sorted out.
