Former Warriors and Dynamos midfield ace Justice “The Chief” Majabvi has praised MWOS for introducing Ethan Tamson to top-flight football at just 13 years of age, saying it’s essential for development.
Tamson, a form 1 pupil at Peterhouse, came on as a second-half substitute, replacing Tafadzwa George in MWOS’ 2-0 victory over Harare giants CAPS United in the Chibuku Super Cup at Ngoni Stadium on Saturday.
He (Tamson) became the youngest player to feature in a top-flight game in Zimbabwe in the process.
Majabvi reckons introducing players to top-flight football at such an age is a step in the right direction, and MWOS should be praised for that.
“I think it’s a good gesture by MWOS to introduce Ethan Tamson,” Majabvi told Fanzone.
“He is a young boy seeing and experiencing that stage at a tender age, which is good. I salute Lloyd Mutasa for that because it’s needed.
“We should keep him in the files and groom the boy because the prospects of becoming a top player are there.
The former Linzer Athletik-Sport-Klub midfielder believes Zimbabwe should evolve and introduce young players to top-flight football, as is the case with Europe, where teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has become a phenomenon at Spanish giants Barcelona.
“In general, grassroots products must be introduced to top-flight football at early stages. It will help us as a country because we have so many players ready for that level at 17.
“In Europe they don’t waste time with young players; they quickly give them high-performance training, and we end up seeing them at international or top club level at a young age.”
chances.
“We saw Ethan against CAPS, there wasn’t much of a difference, he could match in those few minutes he played,” added Majabvi.
