Indiscipline costs Knox Mutizwa his spot at SA side Richards Bay FC

The reason behind Knox Mutizwa’s unceremonious exit from Richards Bay FC has been revealed — with club chairman Jomo Biyela frowning upon the Zimbabwean international’s conduct.

Mutizwa, who joined the Natal Rich Boyz at the beginning of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season after leaving Golden Arrows, has now departed the club following a few months with them.

It’s worth noting that Mutizwa has had previous issues with clubs, including Golden Arrows, where he was the all-time top scorer with 63 goals before his contract was terminated due to misconduct.

And Richards Bay FC chairman, Biyela said Mutizwa immediate exit is a result of his indiscipline: “It’s down to indiscipline. We expected better from him, given his experience and seniority. We can’t tolerate reckless and inconsiderate behaviour.”

The 32-year-old made a total of 17 appearances across all competitions and managed to score four goals during his time with the team.

His departure’s come as a shock, especially since he was told to leave the club abruptly last week and stopped training with the squad.

HLOMPHO KEKANA: ‘WHAT NEXT AT THIS AGE?’

Former Bafana Bafana star Hlompho Kekana said Mutizwa’s conduct is disappointing for a player who is supposed to be helping budding strikers realise their dreams.

“It’s worrying for a player of his calibre — someone who has broken PSL records to be in a situation like this. You’d want him teaching youngsters how to score goals and conduct themselves professionally. Such behaviour is concerning, and at his age, what’s next?” Kekana said during SABC’s Soccer Zone.

Mutizwa’s signing was part of the club’s efforts to reinforce the strike-force as they had lost a key man, Yanela Mbuthuma, to Orlando Pirates.

Where he will end up remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him trek back to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in the footsteps of the likes of Khama Billiat, Terrence Dzvukamanja, and Knowledge Musona, among others.
