‘He is a sniper,’ Thando Ngwenya receives more praise as his rise in stock continues

Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, arguably Zimbabwe’s best striker at the moment, is receiving high praise from AmaZulu, this time, with coach Arthur Zwane labelling him a ‘sniper’.

Ngwenya stands out among the eleven Zimbabwean players in South Africa’s Betway Premiership, which includes Divine Lunga, Knox Mutizwa, Washington Arubi and Edmore Chirambadare.

Elvis Chipezeze, Emmanuel Jalai, Daniel Msendami, Junior Zindoga, Juan Mutudza, and Mason Mushore complete the list.

The 23-year-old striker has already notched six goals in 14 Betway Premiership matches, earning him the ‘sniper’ tag from his coach.

He also scored in the Nedbank Cup round of 32, raising his overall tally to seven goals. On the Betway Premiership goal charts, the former FC Platinum gunslinger is third, behind leading scorer Junior Dion of Golden Arrows who has nine goals.

Bradley Grobler of Sekhukhune United is second with seven goals. Most importantly, Ngwenya has won the trust of coach Zwane, who has been open about the thrill he gets from the Warriors international’s work rate.

“Thando is growing in stature. And obviously, as a striker, you always want to score. It’s good for him, and we’re happy for him..He’s there scoring goals and assisting others,” Zwane said.

“But he’s more of a sniper. Trust me, if Thando took many other chances that we have created – I’m talking not half chances, but one-on-one opportunities – Thando would have been a top goal-scorer in his first season.”
