Harare City snatch the ‘Towel Man’ Madeya as they target PSL return

Harare City FC has landed a big catch in Nedrick Madeya, the charismatic goalkeeper famous for his ‘white towel’ antics during his time Hwange FC.

The 30-year-old joins the Sunshine City boys on a one-year deal after a lackluster stint at Herentals College FC. Madeya is on cloud nine after being handed a lifeline by Try Ncube’s team, who are hoping to snatch win the Northern Region Soccer League title, ultimately the PSL promotion ticket this season.

“Am happy to be here and am looking forward to having a great season, with the obligation of achieving promotion with the club,” Madeya told Fanzone.

Madeya previously played for Highlanders FC and Green Fuel, but he’s mainly remembered for his time at Hwange in 2023 when his towel antics stole the show against Dynamos on 23 March.

He had his white towel snatched away from him just before the start of the second half by a Dynamos supporter, who set it alight.

Meanwhile, Harare City has played cards close to their chests when it comes to their squad. They, however, tried to buy their way into the PSL by acquiring the FC Hunters franchise, but nothing materialised in the end.

Crucially, Madeya’s experience could be the vital cog Harare City FC need to make a return to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
