Grimaldo is on Bayern’s radar amid plans for a left-back

Bayern Munich are reportedly keeping an eye on Bayer Leverkusen defender Alejandro Grimaldo ahead of the next summer transfer window. The 30-year-old Spaniard has a contract with Leverkusen until 2027, which means the club could be compelled to sell if he does not agree to an extension. While Bayern already have options in the full-back department, they may still consider adding a new left-sided defender next year.

Grimaldo joined Leverkusen from Benfica in the summer of 2023 and has since appeared in over 110 matches. He primarily operates as a left-back but is also capable of playing as a left-wing back, offering versatility in wide defensive positions.

Leverkusen’s position on Grimaldo

Leverkusen value Grimaldo highly and are keen to keep him at the club. The Bundesliga side is interested in negotiating a contract extension, and they are prepared to let him play out the final year of his current deal if necessary. This approach indicates that Bayern would face a challenging task if they tried to secure his signature.

Despite Bayern’s interest, the club has not yet reached out to either Grimaldo’s representatives or Leverkusen. Internally, however, the Bavarian club is reported to be serious about the possibility of signing the Spaniard.

Bayern’s left-back options and potential move

Bayern currently have multiple players capable of filling the left-back role. Josip Stanisic has frequently covered the position despite being a natural right-back, and Konrad Laimer has also stepped in when required. Raphael Guerreiro is another option who can play on the left, though his future at the club remains uncertain.

In addition, Tom Bischof has demonstrated his abilities as a left-back for Bayern, though he is primarily regarded as a midfielder. Should Guerreiro depart, Grimaldo could be considered as a potential replacement. The Spaniard reportedly prefers a return to his homeland, and while Leverkusen would entertain offers from Spanish clubs for around €10 million, they would likely demand a higher fee if Bayern pursued him.
