In-form Billy Veremu underlined his desire to win the golden boot by scoring a brilliant hat trick as log leaders MWOS thumped Kwekwe United last Saturday.
Veremu, who is on loan at the Punters from defending champions Simba Bhora, has settled well at the Norton-based side and has been one of, if not their most consistent players.
The hat trick took Veremu’s tally for the season to seven goals, one shy of leading goalscorer Washington Navaya of TelOne.
Interestingly, when the two sides met at Ngoni Stadium two weeks ago, Navaya missed a penalty while Veremu equalised for MWOS in a dramatic 2-2 stalemate.
Of interest too is the fact that Navaya has not scored in the last three matches, a setback which somewhat puts Veremu at an advantage in terms of the race for the Golden Boot.
Yadah’s Francis Mustafa is not far off, as he netted his fifth goal of the season in the Miracle Boys’ equally dramatic 1-1 draw with TelOne last week.
Highlanders’ Reason Sibanda also has two goals to his name and is one of the few players to have scored a hat trick so far this season.
Simba Bhora’s Namibian import, Isaka Gurirab, has four goals to his name despite not being on the scoresheet in the defending champions’ 4-0 demolition of Triangle United at Wadzanayi Stadium last week.
