Goal scoring is a national problem, says Norman Mapeza

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has sensationally claimed Zimbabwe has a goal scoring problem which needs to be addressed.

The outspoken former Warriors captain, who was played as a defender of defensive midfielder, reckons goals are in short supply in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

A total of 58 goals have been scored in four rounds of fixtures in the 2025 season but Mapeza insists goal scoring needs to improve in the country’s top-flight.

“I think the biggest problem we are having now, not only at FC Platinum. If you look at majority of the clubs, we are having challenges in terms of getting goals,” said Mapeza.

“Serve for Highlanders which scored four goals against Kwekwe United, I think the majority of matches having been ending either 1-0 or 1-1.

“Goals are not coming. I don’t think I’m the only coach who is worried about the goal scoring issue, I think most coaches are worried at the rate at which clubs are scoring goals.

“Maybe it’s a case of defensive organization now better.

“We are having the same challenges, we need goals and need people who can score goals,” added Mapeza.

Mapeza’s charges, who have scored only two goals so far this season, played out a goalless draw with MWOS at Mandava on Saturday.

TelOne and GreenFuel have scored the joint most goals so far – seven while ZPC Kariba, Herentals College Chicken Inn have scored the least -one.
