Roma resume Serie A action on Sunday afternoon at the Stadio Giovanni Zini, entering the match as joint leaders alongside Inter. With several rivals facing demanding fixtures this weekend, the Giallorossi have a chance to strengthen their position at the top of the table.
Despite the excitement surrounding their form, coach Gian Piero Gasperini resisted the growing talk about title hopes. Speaking before the trip to Cremona, he stressed that the season is still young and that the current standings should not yet be framed as a major achievement.
Progress recognised, but injuries persist
Gasperini highlighted the group’s development, noting that technical improvements have helped them reach some of their current ceiling. He believes the team functions more cohesively than earlier in the campaign, though he insists there is still room for growth.
Roma continue to deal with absences: Paulo Dybala, Angelino, Leon Bailey and Artem Dovbyk remain sidelined, and Mario Hermoso suffered a fresh muscle problem in training. Evan Ferguson, who missed international duty with Ireland, is available again, and Gasperini called for patience as the young forward adapts to a new environment.
Seeking goals and managing momentum
Roma’s defensive numbers have been strong, but their conversion in front of goal has lagged behind the chances they create. Gasperini feels the team has taken steps forward in recent weeks, both in building opportunities and finishing them, pointing to examples where defenders have contributed to attacking moves.
He also acknowledged a pattern in their season: matches in which Roma concede first have largely ended in defeat, except against Fiorentina. According to the coach, building confidence and learning to overcome setbacks is another part of their long-term improvement.
As for the prospect of a title charge, Gasperini remained grounded. Supporters are free to hope, he said, but he reminded them that few ambitions fully materialise. Roma, he insisted, are not chasing miracles—only steady work.
