Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank criticised sections of the home support after goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was jeered during the 2-1 loss to Fulham. Spurs fell behind twice inside the opening six minutes, suffering their 10th Premier League defeat at home in 2025.
The incident that captured the most attention came with Fulham’s second goal. Vicario rushed out to challenge a long pass, carrying the ball toward the sideline. Instead of sending it straight out, he attempted to clear by turning back infield, slipped, and the ball brushed against Harry Wilson before falling to Josh King. King then set up Wilson, who bent in a remarkable finish from close to the touchline, recorded at 36.6 metres.
When Vicario next touched the ball, boos were heard from parts of the stadium. Spurs were met with further jeers as they left the field at the interval trailing 2-0, and again after the match.
Manager outraged by supporters’ reaction
Frank expressed his irritation with the crowd’s behaviour. He told BBC Sport that hearing fans jeer the goalkeeper during the match was, in his view, unacceptable. He insisted that those reacting that way “can’t be true Tottenham fans,” adding that criticism after the final whistle was understandable, but negativity during play only harms the team.
Fulham had struck early through Kenny Tete before Wilson’s long-range effort doubled their advantage. Spurs improved after the break, pulling one back through Mohammed Kudus, but could not recover the deficit.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart, speaking on Match of the Day, said the second goal could have been prevented. He acknowledged the crowd’s feelings but noted that Vicario’s decision-making in that moment would inevitably shape how his performance was judged, despite the leadership he shows within the squad.
