Former Chelsea star Oscar stable after collapse in Brazil

Former Chelsea and Brazil playmaker Oscar is in a stable condition after suffering a medical emergency related to his heart during fitness assessments at Sao Paulo’s training center on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old, who rejoined the Brazilian club in December 2024, was undergoing preseason evaluations ahead of the new campaign when he suddenly felt unwell.

According to a club statement, Oscar experienced “cardiological alterations” and was immediately treated by both Sao Paulo’s staff and doctors from Einstein Hospital Israelita, who were present at the facility.

He was then transported to the hospital, where he remains under medical supervision as specialists conduct further examinations to determine the cause of the incident.

Details emerge from reports in Brazil

Brazilian outlet Globo reported that the midfielder was riding an exercise bike at the time of the collapse and lost consciousness for approximately two minutes before receiving assistance.

The publication added that the episode has left Oscar reconsidering his playing future and that he may now be weighing retirement following the health scare.

Sao Paulo has not provided a timeline for his recovery or confirmed whether he will continue training in the near term but assured supporters that his condition has stabilized.

Return to roots after years abroad

Oscar’s comeback to Sao Paulo, where he began his professional journey, marked a homecoming nearly two decades in the making. He signed a three-year contract lasting until 2027 after spending eight seasons in the Chinese Super League.

The midfielder joined a side now managed by Hernan Crespo, the former Chelsea and Argentina striker, as part of the club’s plans to blend experience with youth.

His return had generated excitement among fans hoping to see him revive his career in Brazil, though his future on the pitch may now depend on the results of his ongoing medical evaluations.
