Fiorentina’s crisis worsens after defeat to Lecce

Fiorentina’s season hit a new low as angry supporters jeered the team off the pitch and called for coach Stefano Pioli’s dismissal following a 1-0 home loss to Lecce. The frustration was evident throughout the Stadio Franchi, where fans mocked the coach with chants of “the bench is bouncing” before turning their anger toward the entire squad after the final whistle.

The tension escalated outside the stadium, with hundreds of fans gathering to protest and hurl insults at the club’s management. Security concerns have since emerged over when and how the players and staff would be able to leave the ground safely.

Dire league form despite European success

The Viola’s struggles in Serie A are becoming increasingly alarming. After ten matches, they have collected just four points out of a possible 30 and remain without a single league victory. This poor domestic form stands in sharp contrast to their flawless record in the Conference League, where they have won every game so far.

Over the ten Serie A fixtures, Fiorentina have drawn with Cagliari, Torino, Pisa and Bologna, while suffering defeats to Napoli, Como, Roma, Milan, Inter and Lecce. Their main weakness lies in both attack and defense — scoring only seven goals and conceding fifteen. The 2-2 draw with Bologna on October 26 was the only occasion they managed to net more than once.

Resignation and silence within the club

In an attempt to ease pressure on the team, sporting director Daniele Pradè tendered his resignation on Saturday morning. However, the gesture did little to calm the situation as the latest defeat deepened the crisis.

The club later issued a statement confirming that no players, coaches, or officials would address the media following the match, enforcing a press silence. This decision followed the growing unrest surrounding Pioli’s return to Florence — a tenure that had begun with optimism but has since unraveled amid poor performances and fan discontent.
