FC Hunters’ fairytale tale season has turned into a nightmare, with the club’s future hanging in the balance just months after winning promotion to the Castle Premier Soccer League.
The Marondera-based side, who made history as champions of the Eastern Region Soccer League, are struggling to pay players’ salaries and bonuses.
The coach who led them to promotion, 28-year-old Clifford Dzvairo, has since left for Ngezi Platinum Stars.
A Hunters player, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed the dire situation to Fanzone.
“We last received our winning bonuses and salaries in September 2025. We endured a terrible Christmas holiday without our salaries from the club’s leadership. We’re facing uncertainty because there’s no communication from Mr Gore and his executive,” said the player.
Club owner Andrew Gore, the player claims, has gone AWOL, leaving players and staff wondering what’s next in terms of the future.
An awards ceremony planned for the championship triumph was cancelled.
“We’re frustrated. We don’t know if we’ll be playing in the PSL or not. It’s been months since we last heard from the club owner,” the player added.
Rumors of a sale to Harare City Council have swirled, with the City Fathers reportedly set to take over the Marondera-based, on an arrangement similar to what MWOS had with ZPC Hwange.
The 2026 PSL season kicks off in March, and Hunters, on the fixtures list already released, were scheduled to play last season’s runners up MWOS.
