As the final whistle blows on a dramatic, unforgettable season, it is time to recognise the players who rose above the noise, carried their teams, and delivered excellence from Matchday 1 to Matchday 34. The Fanzone Team of the Year celebrates consistency, leadership, resilience and big-moment brilliance. These are the players who defined the season, set the standard, and wrote their names into the story of Zimbabwean football. Do you agree with our selections? And just how many of these stars will shine again next year? Time will tell.
Goalkeeper
William Thole (Simba Bhora) – Outstanding all season for Simba Bhora, Thole was one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the league. Whether it was reflex stops, commanding his box, or organising the backline, he delivered game after game and kept Simba competitive throughout the campaign.
Defenders
Kevin Moyo (Scottland) – A warrior at the back and a key figure for Scottland. His hard work, leadership and consistency earned him a well-deserved nomination for the Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year award.
Andrew Mbeba (Highlanders) – One of Highlanders’ most influential players this season. Mbeba stepped up with crucial goals and big defensive moments that kept Bosso above danger and pushed them through tough rounds of the Super Cup.
Emmanuel Jalai (Dynamos) – Dynamos’ best player this year and arguably their most important. His consistency and defensive intelligence kept the club afloat when things got difficult. Without Jalai, who knows how the season might have ended for Dynamos.
Midfielders
Ishmael Wadi (CAPS United) – In a difficult and underwhelming season for CAPS, Wadi stood out as a shining light. His work rate, creativity and commitment kept CAPS competitive in matches where they could easily have fallen apart.
Abubakar Moffat (MWOS) – Made an immediate impact the moment he arrived. Consistent, technically sharp and always involved, Moffat produced top-level performances week after week. His nomination for the Soccer Star of the Year speaks volumes, and rumours of a possible transfer only underline how impressive he has been.
Emmanuel Ziocha (Simba Bhora) – Steady, composed and influential in midfield. Ziocha contributed key assists and controlled matches with intelligence. His strong season also earned him a place on the Soccer Star of the Year shortlist.
Munashe Bamara (Triangle United) – Phenomenal throughout the year. In a season where Triangle fought for survival, Bamara was the heartbeat of the team. His performances kept them alive in the league and proved just how crucial he was to their campaign.
Forwards
Tymon Machope (Scottland) – The league’s second-highest goal scorer and a forward who exploded in the second half of the season. Machope became one of the most feared attackers in the league and was rightly nominated for the Soccer Star award.
Washington Navaya (TelOne) – The Golden Boot winner and the newly crowned Castle Lager Soccer Star of the Year. Navaya delivered goals with machine-like consistency and carried TelOne’s attack with authority. A season of pure excellence.
Billy Veremu (MWOS) – Finished as the league’s third-highest goal scorer. Veremu started the campaign in electric form, and while he quietened down toward the end, his overall contribution earned him a deserved nomination for Soccer Star of the Year.
These are the players who defined the 2025 season. The standard has been set high, the bar raised even further. Do you agree with the lineup? And how many of these names will make it into next year’s Fanzone Team of the Year?
