Ex-Caps speedster Ian Nyoni Joins Jaure at Kwekwe United

Former Caps United winger Ian Nyoni has officially joined Kwekwe United, teaming up with veteran defender Partson Jaure, who is expected to lead the team’s charge for a quick return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Nyoni, who played for Grain Tigers in the 2025 season, is on a recovery path after a long injury spell that led to his fallout at Caps United.

The 30-year-old, affectionately known as “Pondo,” reunites with coach Tendai Chikuni, who gave him his PSL debut at Chapungu FC in 2018.

Nyoni is expected to be a leader on the pitch and is earmarked for the vice-captain role, with Jaure set to be named team captain.

Kwekwe United, part of the five teams joining the Central Region Soccer League, has renewed hope following a financial injection.

The club’s leadership structure has changed, with Phil Makakera selling his shares. Reports says Makekera received USD 80, 000.

Bridgette Mudhosi, the former Chief Executive Officer, taking on the role of club president. Francis Tavagadza has been retained as club chairman.

Meanwhile, Kwekwe United tried to rebrand to Kwekwe FC but their plan hit a snag. They still owe their players from last season at least USD 2,300 per player.
