Matchday 22 of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League throws up a crunch clash this afternoon, as Dynamos host Manica Diamonds at Rufaro Stadium in what promises to be a tense encounter at the wrong end of the table.
Dynamos, once the pride of Zimbabwean football, are now in serious trouble. Sitting second from bottom in 17th place and on a hat-trick of defeats, the Glamour Boys face the very real threat of relegation — a scenario unthinkable for such a storied club. Matters off the pitch have only added to their woes. Earlier this week, the PSL announced that Dynamos had been found guilty of causing the abandonment of their match against FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium on 22 June 2025. As a result, they were fined US$5,000, and the match was awarded to FC Platinum on a 3–0 scoreline.
To compound matters, head coach Saul Chaminuka was slapped with a US$4,000 fine and a two-match touchline ban for his conduct during the match. His absence from the dugout today could significantly affect team morale and organisation at a time when leadership is desperately needed.
Manica Diamonds haven’t fared much better. They sit 15th and have failed to win in their last five matches, with four defeats and a solitary draw against ZPC Kariba. Head coach Tafadzwa Mashiri is under immense pressure, and rumours are swirling that he could soon be replaced by Montenegro-based coach Predrag Jaredic.
This afternoon’s fixture is more than just three points—it’s a fight for survival. With both clubs entrenched in the relegation zone, the stakes couldn’t be higher. Expect passion, pressure, and plenty of drama at Rufaro.
