Dynamos: A ship sinking further?

They are called Dynamos, but those who bleed blue are split for choice in terms of other names used to refer to the Harare giants.

DeMbare, Chazunguza, the Glamour Boys, Mutunhu une Mago, are all names used in the blue half of Harare- where the love for arguably the biggest team in Zimbabwean football, is not in short supply.

While Glamour Boys is a name regularly used by Dynamos fans, there is just an un-styled look about Dynamos ahead of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.

It’s a season which promised much with the arrival of a new executive led by Harare businessman Vincent Chawonza, who came to both Fanzone and Larry’s Look at the League to preach revival mission possible after taking over from Moses Maunganidze.

The manner in which Dynamos players were dressed in Bulawayo ahead of the Jairos Jiri Cup against old foes Highlanders mirrored a fall form grace picture on the part of a club historically defined by a stylish, successful or popular image.

Reports of lack of sponsorship ahead of the new season have resurfaced, amid revelations that the club’s principal sponsor Sakunda Holdings, is blue-ticking board chairman Bernard Marriot Lusengo reportedly due to lack of audited financial reports from last year.

Chawonza even highlighted on Fanzone that Dynamos would unveil their new players through an unveiling ceremony, but that hasn’t happened.

The new arrivals have been introduced to the Dynamos family through Facebook posts only.

With two weeks to go before the start of a new season, Dynamos’ biggest pre-season story is not that of a new signing, it’s the fact that they got rid of star midfielder Temptation Chiunga because he demanded his dues from last season.

In 1987, the late music icon Zex
Manatsa went into the studio and produced a banger titled: “Tamirira (Dynamos igowese)” which loosely translates to: ‘we are waiting for Dynamos to score.’

But with two weeks to go before the start of a new campaign, Dynamos fans are waiting to see if the new season won’t be as bad, if not worse than last year.
