Divine Lunga and Sundowns left-backs singled out for praise

Mamelodi Sundowns legendary midfielder Tiyani Mabunda has praised the club’s left-backs, led by Warriors star Divine Lunga, for driving the team this season.

Mabunda noted that Lunga and co have been the team’s power source, their “live wire”. Lunga is the top performer, followed by Aubrey Modiba and Thato Sibiya.

Despite Sundowns losing their top spot in the Betway Premiership table to Orlando Pirates and their CAF Champions League Group C lead to Al Hilal Omdurman, Mabunda has hailed Lunga and his teammates. He says the left-backs have midas touch for the team.

Mabunda made these remarks on the Sundowns Pitchside Podcast, saying: “Look at a player like Aubrey, coming from Bafana, Divine coming from The Warriors, and they don’t take that game lightly. They come back and give you 100 percent and Man of the Match performances.

“That tells you that there is something good happening at Mamelodi Sundowns when it comes to the left-backs. You look at the last three consecutive local games, we had Thato being the Man of the Match, he is at left-back. The following game, it was Divine at left-back and Man of the Match. Now, Aubrey, left-back and Man of the Match.”

Lunga has made 55 appearances for Sundowns since joining from Golden Arrows in June 2023. This season, he’s made 10 appearances across all competitions, according to Transfermarkt.
