For the 12th time in the last ten years, Dynamos have a new coach.
The struggling Harare giants reacted to one of their worst starts to a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign in over a decade and showed head coach Lloyd ‘Mablanyo’ Chigowe the exit door. The lanky, seasoned gaffer has overseen just one win in the 11 games played so far this season and hasn’t celebrated a goal since March 30.
The Moses Maunganidze-led executive wielded the axe yesterday and appointed Saul Chaminuka. The former Black Rhinos and GreenFuel coach, who started the season at equally troubled Kwekwe United, will be assisted by Philemon Mutyakureva.
Marlon Jani will be the goalkeeper’s coach, while former Warriors midfielder Ronald ‘Gidiza’ Sibanda retains his post as team manager. A new Saul was indeed needed in the lifeless Harare giants, who were clearly out of sorts in all aspects.
Interestingly, Chaminuka begins his tenure against city rivals CAPS United, who are also under a new coach – Zambian mentor Ian Bakala. Bakala drew with Herentals in his first game in charge and will be hoping to collect maximum points against Dynamos.
While the general consensus in the blue half of Harare is that a new coach was badly needed at DeMbare, neutrals think otherwise. Some argue that Chigowe was not given enough funding to recruit players worthy of the Dynamos badge. Others believe the Dynamos squad, which had more than half new players, needed to be given time to be able to gel. DeMbare lost captain Frank Makarati to TelOne, goalkeeper Martin Mapisa to MWOS, and Sadney Urikhob and Fredrick Ansa-Botshway to Scottland, which have left vacancies in the squad still yet to be filled.
