New Genoa boss Daniele De Rossi is reportedly pushing to bring Juventus shot-stopper Mattia Perin back to his former club. Genoa’s season began disastrously, going nine league fixtures without a single win. That run ultimately cost Patrick Vieira his job, with the team finally earning their first victory under interim coach Domenico Criscito in Sassuolo.
De Rossi, who officially took over afterward, opened his tenure with a 2-2 draw against fellow relegation candidates Fiorentina. Despite the positive start, the former Roma captain is already looking toward the winter window for additions that could strengthen the squad’s survival hopes.
Perin emerges as the preferred target
As reported by Tuttosport via JuventusNews24, De Rossi is aiming to improve the goalkeeper position, as he is not fully convinced by current No.1 Nicola Leali. Perin has been identified as the ideal candidate, with De Rossi familiar with him from their time together within the Italian national setup.
For Perin, the move would mark a return to familiar surroundings. Now 33, he launched his career with the Rossoblù before making the move to Juventus in 2018, following Gianluigi Buffon’s temporary exit from Turin. He later headed back to Genoa on an 18-month loan once Buffon returned to the Bianconeri.
Juventus’ sance on a possible departure
Perin has spent recent seasons as a backup option in Turin—first behind Wojciech Szczęsny and now behind Michele Di Gregorio. Even so, he remains a respected senior figure inside the dressing room and has consistently delivered whenever given minutes.
For these reasons, Juventus reportedly see little incentive to part with him during the season and risk damaging their goalkeeping stability. A transfer would only come into consideration if Perin himself decides he wants a change.
