FC Hunters’ golden boot winner Godfrey Dabgwa is relishing the taste of Premier Soccer League football, despite his side’s goalless draw with Mwos FC in their season opener.
The striker, who was an unused substitute in the match, is living his dream, and he’s determined to make the most of it.
Dabgwa, the only surviving member of the FC Hunters team that won promotion to the Premier League, had considered leaving the club during the pre-season.
However, Coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera’s persuasion paid off, and he’s now a key part of the squad.
A prolific goal-scorer, Dabgwa won the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League golden boot and was voted Soccer Star of the Year.
He believes FC Hunters played well against Mwos, and they could have taken something from the game.
”I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but we showed character and resilience,” Dabgwa told Fanzone, reflecting on the draw. “We had our chances, but unfortunately, they didn’t go in. Mwos pushed hard, but our goalkeeper Kelvin Shangiwa was outstanding.”
Dabgwa also opened up about his decision to stay with FC Hunters, “Honestly, I was considering leaving, but Coach Yabo saw something in me. He believed in me, and I’m glad I stayed. This is where I’m supposed to be.”
Looking ahead to the match against Simba Bhora, Dabgwa is focused: “Simba Bhora is a tough team, but we’re ready. We’ve got a strong squad, and we’re working hard to get the best out of ourselves. I’m looking forward to getting minutes and contributing to the team’s success.”
Dabgwa’s enthusiasm is palpable, and FC Hunters fans will be eager to see him in action. “I’m just happy to be part of this team, and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead,” added Dabgwa.
FC Hunters have a quite a squad, with experienced players like captain Ronald Pfumbidzai, Praise Tonha, Denver Mukamba, and goalkeeper Kelvin Shangiwa, who made crucial saves to secure the point.
Coach Saruchera and assistant Darlington Dodo will be looking to get the best out of their team as they face Simba Bhora away at Wadzanai Stadium in Shamva in their second Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter.
