Chitembwe’s future shrouded in uncertainty as CAPS fans demand his sacking

There are three Lloyds in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

One Lloyd is proving that success in football has nothing to do with just spending on players.

That Lloyd is enjoying a brilliant start to life in the Premiership with debutants MWOS, who edged a battling ZPC Hwange 1-0 at the Baobab Stadium maintain the Punters’ unbeaten run.

That Lloyd, is former Warriors assistant Lloyd Mutasa.

He is the only one among the three Lloyds, who was smiling at the conclusion of Match day 5.

The other Lloyd, from the blue half of the capital, lost his first match of the season.

Dynamos coach Lloyd ‘MaBlanyo’ Chigowe, watched in agony as his charges succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Manica Diamonds at Sakubva.

Chigove’s namesake from the green half of Harare, is the Lloyd who is arguably in the worst situation.

CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe had be escorted by police out of Rufaro Stadium yesterday as furious Makekepe fans bayed for his blood, following the struggling Harare giants’ 2–1 defeat to Ngezi Platinum Stars.

The defeat to Madamburo was CAPS’ third loss in their opening five matches of the 2025 season.

CAPS lost to TelOne and Scottland before yesterday’s defeat and those who ooze green blood, have had enough with Chitembwe -they simply want him to go.

Whether Chitembwe eventually leaves or not is what remains to be seen, but evidently, the veteran coach is feeling the heat.

“To me, I find it very, very logical. There is this expectation about the team, and CAPS United is CAPS United. I have been here long enough to understand what this football club is all about. Results are what matter at the end of the day,” a dejected Chitembwe, told the media after the game.

“If the results are not coming, naturally people will react. This is very, very normal. There is nothing abnormal with that kind of reaction. That is expected. As a club, I think the club needs to find a way to manage that kind of situation.

“Its is the sole responsibility of the coach to make sure the team wins matches. It is my responsibility, and that responsibility does not lie with anyone else.

“I am that kind of a person who does not shy away from that kind of responsibility. I am responsible big time because at the end of the day, the decisions that I make are a reflection on the team,” added Chitembwe.

The last time CAPS United owner Farai Jere spoke about Chitembwe publicly, he declared that the former Warriors midfielder is club’s “lifetime coach.”
