Chitembwe not going anywhere, for now

Lloyd Chitembwe is still in charge of struggling Harare giants CAPS United, contrary to reports that he was shown the exit door.

A poor start to the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, which has seen the Green Machine losing their last four consecutive matches, has put Chitembwe’s future in a wave of uncertainty.

Mainstream media was yesterday awash with reports that Chitembwe had been sacked, but the seasoned gaffer is still in charge.

He took charge of yesterday’s training session, and CAPS players also went through their paces under his watchful eye this morning.

A source at the club who asked not to be named revealed that CAPS is still under Chitembwe despite some reports suggesting otherwise.

“Lloyd is still the CAPS coach; nothing has changed in that regard. The only focus remains on getting a result in the next match against Yadah, nothing more,” said the source.

Some reports have been linking former Highlanders and Warriors coach Baltemar Brito with the job, should Chitembwe be dismissed.

Former CAPS midfielder Ian Bakala has also been speculated to be among those preferred by club owner Farai Jere.

CAPS are 17th on the table after seven rounds of fixtures, and only a superior goal difference separates them from bottom-placed Triangle United.

Anything other than a win against Yadah might turn things from worse to terrible for CAPS, who are showing signs of lack of confidence.

The Miracle Boys won’t be a pushover, though; they will be looking to return to winning ways following last week’s defeat to Triangle.
