CAPS United’s quest to bring on board Takesure Chiragwi hit a snag at the eleventh hour, with the struggling Harare giants then resorting to their former midfielder Ian Bakala.
Chiragwi’s deal was as good as done, until it emerged that his current paymasters Ngezi Platinum Stars activated a clause in his contract which states that both parties have to mutually agree to terminate it.
The youthful coach, who won the league title with Madamburo in 2023, has a year left on his current contract.
Chiragwi was recommended by former CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe, who was elevated to the role of technical director last week.
CAPS ought to have held a press conference to unveil Chiragwi yesterday, but ended up releasing a statement announcing Bakala’s appointment.
The former Zambia international, at last week’s press conference, was announced as the club’s assistant but will now be at the helm.
Bakala will be deputized by former FC Platinum U-19 coach Alexio Sigion.
“We promise that we will deliver the football our fans deserve to see,” said Bakala after his appointment.
Bakala’s first assignment will be a tricky fixture against Herentals on Saturday.
