Zimbabwe’s national cricket team, the Chevrons, head into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers with renewed belief after a string of promising results in their build-up. Having recently claimed a 2-1 series win over Namibia and followed it up with warm-up victories against Kenya and Nigeria, the Chevrons appear well-prepared for the challenge ahead.
Earlier this week, Zimbabwe showcased both depth and balance in their warm-up matches, defeating Kenya by nine wickets before sealing a convincing 47-run win over Nigeria. These performances, alongside their series success over Namibia – regarded as the strongest rival in the qualifiers – underline their growing momentum and confidence.
Their opening fixture comes tomorrow against Uganda, a side that stunned Zimbabwe by five wickets the last time the two teams met in November 2023. Since then, however, the Chevrons have faced tougher opposition, including South Africa and New Zealand, which has sharpened their game and exposed them to higher standards of play.
Only two sides from the Africa qualifiers will book their tickets to the 2026 T20 World Cup. With Namibia tipped as their main competition, Zimbabwe will feel that qualification is firmly within reach – provided they maintain their discipline and carry forward the form of recent weeks.
