Loum Tchaouna produced a stunning long-range strike in the second half to hand Burnley a crucial Premier League win over Leeds United at Turf Moor, snapping their five-match run without a victory.
The French Under-21 international unleashed a ferocious effort from roughly 30 yards that flew into the top corner, sealing a much-needed triumph for Scott Parker’s side.
Burnley had not collected three points since their success against Sunderland in August, but they held firm against Leeds to claim their second league win of the campaign.
Walker and ugochukwu combine for opener
The hosts went ahead midway through the first half thanks to an inch-perfect cross from Kyle Walker. The full-back curled a superb inswinging ball into the area, where Lesley Ugochukwu was waiting to glance it beyond Karl Darlow and into the corner.
Leeds offered little attacking threat before the break, but came close to equalising when Brenden Aaronson’s attempt deflected off goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and struck the post.
Parker made three alterations to the side that lost 2-1 to Aston Villa prior to the international break, and opted for a back four for the first time this season. The tactical change proved effective, helping Burnley keep their structure after half-time.
Defensive solidity and tactical shift pay off
After the restart, Leeds attempted to find a way through but Burnley’s backline stayed compact. Jack Harrison twice shot off target from distance as the visitors struggled to create clear chances.
Burnley did not muster another shot between Ugochukwu’s header and Tchaouna’s spectacular finish, but their defensive discipline earned them only their second clean sheet of the season.
Midfielders Josh Cullen and Florentino were instrumental in maintaining control, distributing the ball intelligently throughout.
The victory lifts Burnley above Nottingham Forest and moves them out of the relegation zone. For a team that conceded just 16 goals in last season’s Championship, this solid display at the back was an encouraging sign after a difficult recent spell.
