It’s either confidence or wishful thinking, or both.
Dynamos coach Saul Chaminuka insists the troubled Harare giants will not be relegated from the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at the end of the season.
The nomadic coach replaced Lloyd Chigowe in the DeMbare dugout in May but has done little to help them survive the chop.
Saturday’s defeat to TelOne was the third since Chaminuka was appointed and eighth in total this season.
DeMbare, who are languishing in 17th place after 20 rounds of fixtures, have won just two matches this campaign.
Many believe Dynamos’s relegation is a question of when, not if, but Chaminuka respectfully disagrees.
“There is no need to panic, we have plenty of games to go, 14 games is how many points? We are looking at how many points in 14 games? 42 or so,” Chaminuka told the media after the defeat to TelOne.
“We can still survive, we have about 10 or so teams which are in and around where we are (relegation zone.)
“It’s a question of winning just one or two games on the trot and we are out of where we are,” he added.
While Chaminuka sounds confident of DeMbare’s survival, the troubled giants need a miracle to achieve that.
No team with 15 points after 20 matches has ever survived the chop.
DeMbare’s problems could be compounded by the fact that FC Platinum are set to be awarded three points on a 3-0 score line, for the two sides’ abandoned match at Mandava last month.
That setback will further cripple Dynamos’s goal difference -a key factor in the relegation matrix.
Chaminuka’s charges, as if things couldn’t be worse, travel to Wadzanai to face defending champions and log leaders Simba Bhora next week.
