Ceballos dispute deepens issues under Arbeloa

Alvaro Arbeloa’s spell in charge of Real Madrid has generally been positive in terms of squad relations, but a series of internal disagreements has begun to surface during the second half of the season.

Dressing room tensions begin to surface

Since taking over in January, Alvaro Arbeloa has established a strong rapport with much of the squad. Despite that, several players have not aligned with his decisions. One of the earliest signs came with Raul Asencio, who was left out of multiple matchday squads following a disagreement with the manager.

Concerns have also involved club captain Dani Carvajal, indicating that the issues are not isolated to fringe players. These situations suggest that while the overall atmosphere remains stable, certain relationships have become strained.

Ceballos fallout after selection decision

The most recent situation centers on Dani Ceballos, whose 2025–26 season has been difficult. The midfielder was not included in the squad for the 1-1 draw against Real Betis, a decision linked to a disagreement with Arbeloa.

According to Javier Herráez, speaking via Cadena SER, the dispute arose after Ceballos expressed dissatisfaction with his role following a return from injury. He felt his involvement on the pitch did not reflect what he believed he had earned, which led to friction with the coaching staff.

The exclusion from the Betis match highlighted the breakdown in communication, and it reinforced the idea that the midfielder’s role in the squad has diminished significantly in recent weeks.

Limited role and possible final appearance

Given the current situation, Ceballos may not feature regularly for the remainder of the campaign. If his absence continues, it raises the possibility that his last appearance for Real Madrid has already taken place.

The circumstances surrounding his reduced involvement point toward a separation in the upcoming transfer window, particularly as his position within the team appears uncertain.

Transfer interest grows ahead of summer window

A departure in the summer is increasingly expected, with Ceballos looking for a team where he can secure consistent playing time. Real Madrid are open to letting him go, provided that a suitable offer is made.

Ajax have already taken steps toward a potential move, while Real Betis remain attentive to the situation. The Spanish side have made multiple attempts in the past to re-sign their former player, and this window could present another opportunity, although any agreement would need to satisfy Madrid’s conditions.
