CAPS United president Farai Jere insists the Green Machine will hit the right codes again and eventually fight for the championship, despite a very poor start to the season.
A lot was expected from Lloyd Chitembwe’s charges in the buildup to the season following the signing of star players, including midfield workhorse Tanaka Shandirwa, former Warriors star Kundai Benyu, and former ZPC Hwange goalkeeper Harmony Nare, among others.
But the struggling Harare giants find themselves in the relegation zone after six matches, having lost three consecutive matches.
The setback in the green half of the capital even saw a section of CAPS fans demanding the sacking of Chitembwe.
But Jere insists the Green Machine will get it right, starting with this week’s fixture against Bikita Minerals.
“The CAPS United fans were just sending their message that with the way we did business during the transfer window, we are expecting results, which is very normal. What I want to promise them is that the good days are now coming; they will be smiling; they are going to come and enjoy their beloved CAPS United, which they love so much,” said Jere.
“We have meetings just to encourage the players and technical team. The team played very well against Highlanders; they played like true champions, and we still have a very big chance to win this year’s league championship. This is what I was telling the boys. And this is the time we just have to go to the next fixture and win.
“It was more of a psychological meeting with players to say you are not failures. We were saying to the players, ‘Let’s remain focused on the big goal. We need to win the league this year, and no one is going to take us away from that,” added Jere”.
CAPS United trail log leaders MWOS by a massive 10 points heading into match day 7.
