Bournemouth complete deal for Hungary midfielder Alex Toth

Bournemouth have finalised the recruitment of Hungary international Alex Toth from Ferencváros in a transfer worth £10.4m.

The 20-year-old has agreed to a five-and-a-half-year stay on the south coast, with the agreement also containing potential add-ons valued at £2.6m.

Ferencváros has additionally secured a clause guaranteeing them 10% from any future move involving the player.

Contract details and transfer background

The Cherries moved ahead of competition from Benfica, Galatasaray, and Lazio, all of whom were tracking the midfielder before the switch to England was completed.

Toth has already represented his national side on nine occasions, despite his young age.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, the midfielder explained that Bournemouth’s interest immediately caught his attention.

He highlighted the appeal of joining a Premier League side and praised the organisation and structure he encountered during discussions.

Player pathway and career to date

Toth’s entire club development has taken place in Hungary, where he progressed through domestic football before stepping into the first-team picture.

During the 2023-24 campaign, he gained experience away from Ferencváros while on loan at Soroksár.

His senior debut for Ferencváros arrived in December 2024, marking the beginning of a regular role with the reigning champions.

Since then, he has accumulated 52 appearances in all competitions and contributed four goals.

Bournemouth’s plans and January activity

Bournemouth’s head of football operations, Tiago Pinto, welcomed the arrival, pointing to Ferencváros’ familiarity with domestic success and European competition.

He expressed confidence that the midfielder will continue to progress under the guidance of head coach Andoni Iraola.

Toth becomes the club’s third addition during the January transfer window.

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster and defender Ade Solanke had already joined prior to the completion of this deal.
