Ambitious Central Region Soccer League outfit Blanket Mine FC has pounced on players released by the now defunct Sheasham FC, with Luke Petros assembling a formidable team to fight for the PSL promotion ticket.
Petros, also a former Sheasham assistant coach during the 2025 season, has done his business quietly, assembling a team blended with raw talent and experienced former PSL players.
The former Kaizer Chiefs and Warriors striker has a decent history in the region, having helped the now-defunct Whawha gain promotion, twice in 2015 and 2019.
He has shown his intentions of challenging for the promotion ticket, luring outstanding players left out in the cold when Sheasham FC disbanded. These include striker Phillip Chiripanyanga, winger Donnington Muparo, and right-back Roy Useni.
Other notable signings include former Dynamos and Triangle midfielder Ali Maliselo and Tafadzwa Muzenda, formerly with Kwekwe United.
It remains to be seen how the Gwanda-based outfit will fare in 2026 under the former Warriors striker, who replaced Farai Tawachera as head coach. They will begin their fixture with an away date to Chapungu at Ascot stadium.
The town has five teams that are competing for honors in the league: Gwanda Pirates, Super Strikers, West Nicholson, and ZRP Gwanda, who all use Phelandaba Stadium, as well as Blanket Mine.
