Rodrigo Bentancur has agreed to a fresh contract with Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League side announced the new deal without disclosing its exact length, describing it only as “long-term.”
The 28-year-old has represented the north London club on 122 occasions since his switch from Juventus in 2022.
Bentancur featured from the start as Spurs ended their 17-year wait for silverware by defeating Manchester United in last season’s Europa League final.
Player expresses joy at extension
“I feel really good and I’m very happy to continue my story with this fantastic club,” Bentancur said after the announcement.
He highlighted the changes within the squad, mentioning the arrival of a new coach and a new captain, and added that he is looking forward to spending many more years at the club.
Changing leadership over the years
The midfielder arrived during Antonio Conte’s spell in charge, but the Italian was dismissed 14 months later.
Ange Postecoglou took the reins in 2023 before Thomas Frank succeeded him earlier this year.
Thomas Frank expressed his delight at Bentancur’s choice to remain with the team.
“I’m extremely happy that Rodrigo has committed his future to the club,” Frank said. “It shows his belief in what we are building here and that we are starting a journey which we hope will be really special.”
