Zimbabwe kicked off their three-match T20I series against Namibia in impressive fashion, claiming a 33-run victory in the first game at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. The hosts posted a formidable 211/3 batting first, before bowling out Namibia for 178/7.
The backbone of Zimbabwe’s innings was laid by an outstanding opening partnership between Brian Bennett and Tadiwanashe Marumani. Marumani provided a solid start with 62 off 48 balls. Bennett then tore into the Namibian attack, making 94 from just 51 deliveries, hammered with eight fours and four sixes. Their 124-run stand for the first wicket set the tone perfectly. Cameos from Ryan Burl (22 off 9) and Sikandar Raza (23* off 11) helped propel Zimbabwe past the 200-run mark.
Namibia fought back early in response. Blessing Muzarabani removed opener Malan Kruger, but Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton (38 off 24) and Zane Green (33 off 27) offered resistance. Their efforts were undermined by regular breakthroughs: Sikandar Raza picked up key wickets, and Wellington Masakadza removed Loftie-Eaton, dashing Namibia’s hopes of a strong chase.
Zimbabwe’s bowling was disciplined. Muzarabani, Raza and others maintained pressure through tight lines and timely wickets. Though Namibia started strongly – earning 61 in the Powerplay – they were unable to sustain momentum.
This victory gives Zimbabwe a 1-0 lead in the series, and plenty of confidence as the second T20I looms. The performances of Bennett and Marumani suggest the hosts are peaking at the right time. New Zealand or Global Qualifier aside, this display reminds everyone that Zimbabwe’s white-ball batting depth is growing—and that when their top order clicks, they can beat good sides.
