Ipswich Town have added experienced full-back Ashley Young to their squad on a one-year agreement. The 40-year-old, who recently marked his birthday, joins following his release from Everton earlier this summer.
Young brings a wealth of experience, having featured in 750 club matches since making his professional debut with Watford in 2003. Over the years, he has also represented top-tier clubs such as Manchester United and Aston Villa, and earned 39 international appearances for England.
Manager praises leadership and desire
Speaking to the club’s official site, Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna commended Young’s long-standing professionalism and consistent performance levels throughout his lengthy career. McKenna noted that the former England international has demonstrated strong competitiveness and is still capable of performing at a high standard.
The manager emphasised the importance of Young’s leadership qualities and the positive influence he could have within the squad. McKenna also highlighted the defender’s motivation to contribute both in matches and behind the scenes.
Ipswich are preparing to begin their campaign back in the Championship with an away fixture against Birmingham City, scheduled for Friday, 8 August.
