Arsenal finally announce the signing of Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal has finally signed their man and are thrilled to confirm that Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with the club.

The 27-year-old striker joins from Sporting Lisbon, where he delivered a sensational record of 97 goals in just 102 appearances.

Across two dominant seasons with Sporting, Viktor played a key role in securing back-to-back Primeira Liga titles and a national cup, while also finishing as the league’s top scorer in both campaigns. On the international stage, he’s been just as clinical, netting 12 goals in his last 17 outings for Sweden.

Viktor began his career in Stockholm with IF Brommapojkarna, where he impressed in the youth system by scoring 32 goals in 31 matches at U19 and U21 levels, eventually making his senior debut at just 17 years old.

Viktor made the move to Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2018, where he gained valuable experience through loan spells at Swansea City, St. Pauli, and Coventry City. He later joined the Sky Blues permanently in 2021, playing a key role in their run to the Championship Play-Off final in 2023.

Andrea Berta, Arsenal’s Sporting director said: “We are so pleased with the excellent deal we have completed to bring Viktor Gyökeres to the club. Viktor is an exceptional talent and has consistently demonstrated he has the qualities and winning mentality required of a top-level center-forward. His physicality, intelligence, and work ethic make him a perfect fit for our vision.”

“We are confident Viktor will have a major impact on the pitch and become an important figure in our dressing room. Welcome, Viktor!”

Meanwhile Mikel Arteta added: “We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Viktor Gyökeres to the club. The consistency he has shown in his performances and availability has been outstanding, and his goal contributions speak for themselves.”

“Viktor has so many qualities. He is a quick and powerful presence up front, with incredible goal-scoring numbers at club and international levels. He brings a clinical edge with a high conversion rate of chances into goals, with his intelligent movement in the box making him a constant threat.”

“We’re excited about what Viktor brings to our squad and are looking forward to starting to work with him. We welcome Viktor and his family to Arsenal.”

Viktor will wear the number 14 shirt and will immediately join up with the squad on Arsenal’s men’s pre-season tour in Asia.
