Juventus are reportedly looking to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres’ future.
Viktor Gyökeres is widely expected to leave the reigning Portuguese champions this summer, although his next destination remains uncertain. Reports suggest he has “officially” turned down a move to Manchester United, along with the opportunity to reunite with former coach Rúben Amorim.
Over the weekend, Portuguese outlet Record reported that Manchester United had been informed of Viktor Gyökeres’ decision to reject a move to Old Trafford following discussions with his representatives.
Alternatively, the report suggested that Gyökeres favors a move to Arsenal. However, the Gunners are said to be growing increasingly frustrated with the negotiation process involving both the striker and his current club, Sporting CP.
Due to the current impasse, Juventus may look to pounce on the opportunity to sign the 27-year-old striker, who enjoyed a remarkable season with 54 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Serie A giants are aiming to exploit the uncertainty by swooping in to hijack any potential move to Arsenal or Manchester United, with hopes of luring Gyökeres to Turin.
Reports suggest that following discussions with Gyökeres’ representatives, Juventus has signaled their readiness to offer a contract worth £11 million per year.
After securing a fourth-place finish in Serie A last season and qualifying for the Champions League, Juventus appear eager to bolster their attacking options – especially considering their top scorer for the 2024/25 campaign, Dušan Vlahović, netted just 15 goals across all competitions.
Will Arsenal sign Gyökeres?
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will sign the Swedish forward this summer, as the Gunners also remain in talks with RB Leipzig regarding the transfer of Benjamin Sesko. However, the player being in search of Champions League football and ample playing time puts the Gunners in a strong position regarding his signature. It must be mentioned, though, that Sporting CP are playing hardball over negotiations, and that could hinder the chances of any potential deal happening.
Things will probably become clearer in the coming days, but if Gyökeres truly fancies a move to the Premier League, it is difficult to see a better club suited for him than Arsenal.
