Agama FC has parted ways with goalkeeper Danny Tagara, barely a month after he signed a one-year contract with the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League debutants.
The decision was communicated to Tagara via a WhatsApp message by goalkeepers coach Witness Munkuli, who informed, “Zvirisei mfana wangu (How are you my young brother), I’m sorry to tell you that as technical team we have come to a decision to release you from our final squad we have selected. I wish you the best in your future endeavours.”
Tagara, who joined Agama from Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League champions FC Hunters, expressed his shock and disappointment.
”I am equally shocked and at a loss of words, a few weeks after sealing a move I described as a dream come true to be playing in the Premier Soccer League,” said Tagara.
Sources close to Agama FC reveal that the decision was triggered by a combination of factors, including a loss to Simba Bhora FC in a friendly match last weekend, a “sloppy” goal conceded, and a clash between players and the executive a few days ago over delayed salaries and signing on fees.
Agama lost to Simba Bhora by a goal to nil in the Barnabas Mushunje Memorial Match, a charity match organized by the latter with proceeds from it going to his widow and family.
Assistant Coach Mark Mathe reportedly warned players of consequences after the loss, and the executive has since purged six players deemed to be part of the insurrection.
The affected players include Tawananyasha Zidoro, Marlven Nyaungana, Tatenda Chiyangwa, Nelson Ketala, and Russel Zambu.
Ironically, all these players including Tagara were not involved in the Barnabas Mushunje Memorial Match.
Agama FC’s first Castle Lager Premier Soccer League 2026 season kicks off next week with a clash against giants Caps United, raising questions about the team’s readiness for the challenge ahead.
