A tribute to Coach Vulindlela Jasper Moyo

The Zimbabwe Volleyball community has been plunged into mourning, following the death one of the most respected coaches of the game- Vulindlela Jasper Moyo.

A true legend of the game,
Moyo passed away yesterday at the age of 58.

Jasper’s journey is a testament to his unwavering commitment to volleyball.

He started playing for Sparrows, then Vikings, before joining Highlanders and later Raiders a team he formed .

He attained coaching certificates, including Level 1, 2, and 3, with his expertise recognized internationally.

He served as head coach of the Zimbabwe Women’s national team, technical director, and coach instructor for the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB).

Moyo coached several teams, including SHALOM Ballers, Highlanders, and his own team Byo Raiders, which he founded with notable players like Brenda Mundiya and Prudent Ndlovu.

He contributed significantly to Zimbabwe Volleyball, shaping young players through the Africa Dream Project and serving as a coach instructor.

“Jasper was the best when it comes to player development and grooming,” Coach Itsanang Abu-Basuthu, told Fanzone.

“ As the Zimbabwe national team coach, he did a lot, and there are many players playing now that were groomed by Jasper, some playing outside the country,” Abu-Basuthu added.

Former and current players expressed deep sadness, recalling Moyo’s dedication to junior development.

“Nobody cared about junior development like Coach Jasper did,” said Isaach Chokera, former Highlanders and national team middle blocker.

Coach Jasper will be laid to rest on Wednesday in his rural home in Kezi, Matobo District.
