A schoolboy among men, 14 and fearless: Meet Ethan Tamson, the PSL’s youngest player

By Zimbabwean law, Ethan Tamson is not even old enough to drive. That is how young he is.
Yet, while he is too young to get behind the wheel of a car, he is already old enough to command attention on the biggest stage in Zimbabwean football.
At just 14 years of age, Ethan made history by becoming the youngest player to feature in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match when he came on for Arthur Banda in MWOS FC’s 2-0 victory over Herentals at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.
It was a moment that captured the attention and curiosity of football lovers, a remarkable milestone for a boy whose journey in the game is only just beginning.
Ethan is living proof that courage knows no age. While many of his peers at Peterhouse are preoccupied with schoolwork, friendships and the everyday challenges of adolescence, he is already rubbing shoulders with seasoned professionals in Zimbabwe’s top-flight league.
“With the few touches he got, we are trying to make him believe that’s where he is going and with time, if gets some few more minutes, it would be good for him,” said MWOS coach Lloyd Mutasa when asked about Ethan’s debut and what the future holds.
He is a youngster who loves football, and fortunately for him, the game appears to love him back.

Ethan’s story is not just about age. It is about courage, opportunity and the willingness of a club to trust a young player with a chance to shine when it matters most.
For MWOS, giving a 14-year-old an opportunity in the PSL represents a statement of faith in youth development. For Ethan, it is the beginning of a journey that could take him far beyond the confines of Rufaro Stadium.
Of course, the road ahead will not be easy. The demands of professional football are immense and the challenge for the youngster will be to remain grounded, continue learning and develop at a pace that matches his extraordinary early breakthrough.
There will be expectations, scrutiny and comparisons, but at his age, the most important thing is to enjoy the game, keep improving and make the most of every opportunity that comes his way.
At 14, Ethan has already announced himself to Zimbabwean football.
